Donna Allgood

Donna Allgood, 64, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of September 14, 2026. She was born in Daviess County on August 27, 1962. Donna’s final days were spent with the compassionate care of the staff at the University of Louisville Hospital, while surrounded by the endless love of her son and family.

Donna was the kind of woman who made caring for others seem like second nature. Her family was at the center of her life, and there was little she would not set aside to make sure the people she loved were cared for. Her children and grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and time spent with them was never an obligation. It was where she wanted to be.

Selfless in a way that showed itself in everyday life, Donna gave her time, changed her plans, and often put her own wants aside when someone she loved needed her. She was caring, welcoming, and generous with herself, and those qualities made her home, and simply being around her, a comfortable place to be.

Donna also had a remarkable green thumb. She could grow just about anything, and her family jokingly insists that she could probably make a metal sign grow if she planted it. Her garden was proof of that gift, particularly her tomatoes.

When she wasn't tending to her garden, Donna could often be found with a good novel, crocheting, cooking something for the people she loved, or settling in after discovering a television show worthy of a good binge. These were simple pleasures, but Donna had a way of making simple things meaningful.

Donna also had a special place in her heart for her four legged companions. After unexpectedly losing a beloved dog, Moe, Donna eventually opened her heart again and embarked on a new journey with Ruby, affectionately known as “Roo.” Roo quickly became a treasured companion and was loved dearly.

She welcomed people, looked after them, fed them, worried about them, and made room for them in her life. The things she grew in her garden will eventually fade, but what she cultivated within her family, the love she gave so freely, the memories she created, and the example she leaves behind, will continue to grow for generations.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Allgood; son, Christopher Goldman; father, Chester Rather; mother, Loretta Rather; father, Donald Joseph Hagan and brother, Mark Rather.

She is survived by her children, Donald “Lee” Goldman (Jennifer) and Emily Kellems (Henry); step-children, Herbert Allgood (Melissa), Tammy Allgood, Dorothy Allgood, Shelly Dukes, and Debra Simmons; siblings, Kim Johnson, Lori Ann Carr (Greg), Cara Cooper (Ed), and Brian Rather (Sherry), twenty-five grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Thursday. Burial will follow at Kelly Cemetery.
