Donald Roger Yates

Donald R. Yates, Sr., of Henderson, passed away on October 18, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Henderson to the late Luther W. and Ollie May Yates.

Donald was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion.

Donald had worked as a machinist at Eaton Axle and had served as president of the Local United Steel Workers Union. He attended Fairview General Baptist Church.

He loved music and was a very accomplished guitarist. Donald was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Donald is survived by four sons, Donald R.Yates, Jr., Darrin R. and David R. Yates and Gregg Allan Bland; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; best friend and caregiver, Pamela Struttmann and her husband, Marty; several cousins and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Fairview General Baptist Church, Bluff City-Spottsville Road in Henderson. A private committal service will follow at Old Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at church.
