Donald Ray Wilkins, Sr.

Donald Ray Wilkins, Sr. 67, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born July 31, 1948 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Kenneth and Evelyn Hedges Wilkins. Donald Ray was retired as a furniture inspector with the Hon Co. and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He had received numerous combat medals from serving in Vietnam and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #696, Disabled American Veterans, and the AmVets Post 75. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #9 and had been attending Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. Donald Ray enjoyed traveling, vacationing, fishing, horse racing, and was an avid U.K. basketball fan. He had been a youth baseball coach in the Owensboro Western Baseball League for 20 years. He also was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Donald Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Massie on April 19, 2014.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Beverly Wilkins, his son, Donald Wilkins, Jr. and wife Amy of Owensboro, a stepson, Donald Ray Moss, Jr. of Winslow, IN, four stepdaughters, Patricia Barton and husband Dennis of Boonville, IN, Vicki Griffin and husband Randy of Tennyson, IN, Lea Sherman and companion Christopher Dean of Newburgh, IN, and Dona Murray and husband Donald of Newburgh, three grandchildren, John Benjamin, Stella Olivia, and Emma Arlyn Wilkins, all of Owensboro, 11 stepgrandchildren, five step great grandchildren, a sister, Linda Falloway McPhearson of Owensboro, six brothers, Wayne Wilkins and wife Sharon, Robert Wilkins and wife Marilyn, Jerry Wilkins and wife Lisa, Ronnie Wilkins and wife Aleada, and Mike Wilkins, all of Owensboro, Tommy Wilkins of Utica, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow with full military honors at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 8:30 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
