Donald Ray Rone, 81, of Owensboro passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at his home. Born in McLean County on March 18, 1934, he was the son of the late Frank Eustus and Vera Baker Rone and retired from Green River Steel in 1985 where he was a member of USW 4959 and retired as the General Foreman of the Masonry Department. Mr. Rone was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church and often volunteered to work in the nursery. He enjoyed NASCAR, camping and was a UK fan. He was a member of the Ensor Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Rone; brothers, Bill, George, and Harry Rone; and sisters, Adeen Miller and Jana Deitz.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Mary Rose Eagan Rone; sons, Jerry (Sandy) Rone of Maceo and Donnie Rone and Gary (Vada) Rone of Owensboro; daughters, Charlotte (Doug) Crowe and Alice (Brent) Wilson of Owensboro; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bobby (Barbara) Rone of Kershaw, SC; sisters, Franney Simerlein of Dothan, GA and Carol Rone of Owensboro.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where there will be a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at Yellow Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Wedding officiating. Visitation on Monday will be after 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
