Donald James Mellon

Donald James (Don) Mellon, 53 of Owensboro passed away peacefully October 16, 2015 at his home. Born May 18, 1962 at Ft Campbell, KY, he was the son of the late Donald Ray and Nora Poston Mellon. Don graduated from Daviess County High School in 1980, earned his BA in Marketing from UK, his MA in Business Administration from Murray State, and his Rank 1 in Education from Western Kentucky. He worked as a draftsman and designer for the Owensboro Planing Mill, hall director for UK, marketing manager for Fruit of the Loom, manager of business development for Texas Gas, Executive Professor of business for WKU, and an instructor, composer, and adjudicator for marching bands in IN, KY, and TN.

He most enjoyed teaching the DCHS drum line, drawing house plans, participating in Drum Corps International, golfing, skiing, traveling, and watching UK basketball, Notre Dame football, and talking to family and friends.

Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Karen Boone Mellon; a daughter, Kate; a sister, Stephanie Mellon-Overfield of Henderson; his father-in-law, Bill Boone of Livia; his mother-in-law, Janice Boone of Owensboro; brothers-in-law, Rob (Lynn) Boone and Jon (Misty) Boone all of Owensboro; nieces and nephews, Brittney Meadors, Michael Meadors, Ryan Boone, Seth Boone, Sean Boone, Lilli Boone, and Paige Boone; and several cousins.

Services are 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday and after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
