Donald Roy Harry

Donald Roy Harry, 78, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, May 12, 2010 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Lewis County on March 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Howard and Tessie Hamby Harry; was retired from Big Rivers Electric where he worked for 23 years; worked at Wyndall's Foodland and then IGA; and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Harry was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Sanctuary Choir. His greatest joy was knowing and sharing God's love. Mr. Harry enjoyed gardening and yard work. "He never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good story."

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shelby Posey Harry; children, Donna (Russell) Musser and Doug (Janet) Harry of Owensboro, and Greg (Felicia) Harry of Hodgenville; grandchildren, JonMical Harry, Chandra Harry, Hannah Harry, and Ethan Harry; a step-grandchild, Tylene Musser; and siblings, Gene (Rusty) Harry and Margaret Sheets of Florida, Bobby (Liz) Harry, Cecil (Linda) Harry, and David (Nancy) Harry all of Ohio, and Cheryl (Karl) Kelley of Georgia.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Lewis Lane Baptist Church with Rev. David Wiggins officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There is no visitation on Saturday. A committal service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in Christ Chapel, Owensboro Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 696.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Lewis Lane Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Gideons International.
