Donald “Donnie” E. Wilkerson, 76, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, February 4th, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 22, 1949, in Whitesville, Kentucky, Donnie devoted his life to his wife, children, grandchildren and his successful career in pharmacy.

After graduating from Auburn University in 1974, Donnie embarked on a rewarding 44-year journey in the pharmaceutical industry. His professional path led him to work at numerous chain pharmacies until he seized the opportunity to establish Wilkerson’s Pharmacy in 1989. After a brief retirement, Donnie purchased Morgantown Prescription Center in 2002, where he served his community with dedication until his retirement in 2013. His commitment to his work and the well-being of others left a lasting impact on those he served.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Donnie was a man of strong faith and a devoted member of Whitesville Christian Church. His unwavering belief guided him throughout his life and inspired those around him.

Donnie enjoyed a rich tapestry of hobbies that reflected his zest for life. He cherished deep sea fishing and scuba diving, relishing the beauty of nature beneath the waves. Traveling brought him joy, as he explored new places and created memories with loved ones. In quieter moments, he found pleasure in watching westerns, listening to music, and expressing his creativity through woodworking.

Above all, Donnie was a big family man. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, fostering connections that will resonate for generations to come.

Donnie is preceded in death by his parents, James Wilkerson and Margaret Wilkerson-Hagan; brothers, Junie Wilkerson, William “Billy” Wilkerson and Richard “Richie” Wilkerson, and his best friend, Loyd J. Cole.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Cindy Wilkerson; children, Chad Wilkerson (Alicia), Shane Wilkerson (Sarah) and Heather Newman (Shack); siblings, Wayne Wilkerson (Cecilia), Becky Coomes, Janice Litchfield, Sandy Basham (Fritz), Cheryl Wilkerson, Kathy Edge (Robbie), Tommy Wilkerson (Shelley) and Norma Kaelin (Larry); grandchildren, Alexis, Lauren (Zach), Tyler, Elizabeth, Samuel, Lucy, Abby, Hattie and Annie; other cherished family members include Bonnie Canary, Durinda Rold (Rob) and James Neel Hines.

The funeral service for Donnie will be 12 PM Tuesday, February 10, at Whitesville Christian Church. Visitation will be Monday from 3 PM until 7 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of service at the church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
