Donald Fay Chapman

Donald Fay Chapman, 77, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011. He was born September 13, 1933 to the late Orville and Golda Chapman in Masonville. Don was a Veteran of the Army National Guard and a proud retiree of General Electric. He was an umpire - an occupation he loved. As recently as last summer he was still umpiring games locally. Don loved sports of all kinds (especially basketball and baseball), hunting for quail, working on old cars and driving around looking at the "backwater" in the springtime.

Don was especially proud of his children; Dana and Stacey - as well as his five grandchildren (Courtney, Nicholas, Isabella, Price and Jake). He enjoyed watching them in their various talents in school and on the athletic fields.

Don was preceded in death by two grandchildren; Jillian Claire Cowan and Walker Maddux Cowan.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Joyce Chapman of Owensboro; his daughters, Dana (Stuart) Alexander of Murray, KY, and Stacey (Chad) Cowan of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Courtney Billington and Nicholas Alexander, both of Murray, Isabella, Price, and Jake Cowan, all of Owensboro; a brother, Kelly Chapman of Morgantown, and two sisters, Nancy Cox of Louisville, and Lynda Herrington of Bowling Green; a niece and several nephews and cousins.

Don was the kind of person who willingly gave of his time and truly enjoyed learning about others. He never spoke ill of anyone and was well liked by all that knew him. He was especially pleased with his most recent decision to have been baptized. He will be greatly missed by all.

Services will be 12:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial in Elmwood Cemetery with Military Honors by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
