Dessie Jenkins Peay, 95, of Owensboro died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 17, 1909 in Butler County, Mrs. Peay was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Faith. Her interests were gardening, fishing, camping, crossword and jig-saw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis G. Peay on June 15, 1975 and 2 sons, Kenneth Earl Peay on Sept 27, 1933 and Donell Hugh Peay, Sr., on Sept 6, 2003. Four brothers, Henry, Lee, Edward and Marshall Jenkins and two sisters, Ruby Smith and Martha G. Jenkins also preceded her.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Belinda Peay of Havelock, NC; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Sue and Sammy McCanless of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Wilma Jean Peay of Owensboro; two sisters, Beatrice Mallory and Mona Belle Jenkins both of Lewisburg; 10 grandchildren, Donnie, Debbie, Diana, Doris, David, Peri, Chuck, Jerry, Jeff, and Crystal; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 A.M., Monday, November 22, 2004 at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-6 P.M. on Sunday, November 21, 2004 and after 8:30 A.M. on Monday.
