Delphia House, 102, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 04, 2008, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born August 27, 1905 to the late Ben and Nettie Newton Jackson in Hancock County. She was a member of the Roseville Baptist Church, a homemaker, and had been appointed a Kentucky Colonel, twice. The City of Owensboro designated a Proclamation that August 27, 2005 was Delphia Jackson House day. She was a member and an active quilter at the Elizabeth Monday Senior Center, and enjoyed crocheting and traveling. She never met a stranger, and always made a good impression on everyone. One of the best inventions she said she saw, was, the washing machine. She raised and was like a mother to Roger Jackson, Tony Jackson, Becky Gardner, Kathy Durbin and Sonia Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl House in 1978, eight brothers, Clarence, Herb, Oscar, Leonard, Orville, Evert, Clay and Charlie Jackson, three sisters, Stella Crowe, Anna Sue Smith, and Helen Jackson, two nephews, Roger and Tony Jackson.
Survivors include her close nieces, Becky Gardner, and her husband, Clifton of Dunmor, Kathy Durbin of Georgetown, and Sonia Carlisle, and her husband, Steve of Owensboro; also several other nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and some great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Roseville Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, and after 10:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.
