Delbert R. Wofford, 78, of 624 Suffolk Drive, Owensboro, died at Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in St. Louis, MO, a son of Delbert D. and Lucille Brown Wofford. Mr. Wofford retired from the communications department of Texas Gas after 38 years of service. A member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, he was co-chairman of the churchs Prayer Ministry, a member of the Administrative Board, and taught Sunday school for many years. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, he served as president of the 459th Association and was currently chairman of the board of directors. He attended Memphis State University. While at Texas Gas he was loaned to American Commercial Barge Lines to work on Watercom, a modern communication systems for barge lines.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jimmie Marie Wofford; three children, Delbert Donald Wofford of Owensboro, Delace Rae Wofford Canada, of Maysville, and Dr. James Cole Wofford of Ft. Thomas, KY; five grandchildren, Ian Canada, Ember Canada, and Andrew Canada, all of Maysville, and Austin Wofford and Shannon Wofford of Ft. Thomas; and his sister, Emily Ann Ashcraft of Franklin, TN.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2003. The graveside service and burial will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Memphis Memorial Park, Memphis, TN.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Prayer Ministry at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
