Debbie Mackey, beloved wife, mother, and Nana, passed away on October 29, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 63 years old.
Born on June 27, 1961, in Owensboro, KY, to the late Betty Cartwright and Billy Dupin. Much of her early years were spent with her grandma and papaw, Stella and John Martin, to whom she shared countless stories about. At the age of 15, Debbie met and married the love of her life, Charlie. They spent over 47 wonderful years together. To have witnessed their love and unwavering dedication to each other was a blessing.
Debbie devoted her adult life to caring for others, both at home and in her profession. After raising her children, she pursued her nursing degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, and she spent years serving her community with skill, strength, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her patients. She was a source of comfort to countless families and was known for her empathy and teamwork.
As a mother, Debbie raised her children with love, humor, and a spirit of strength. Her children and grandchildren remember her dedication and support, her laugh, and her resiliency. Her role as Nana was one she cherished above all; her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she never missed a chance to celebrate them and share in their dreams.
Debbie will be remembered for her spirited heart, her infectious smile, and her creativity that marked every moment of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, grit, and grace that will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Mary Jo and Frank Mackey.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Charlie Mackey; her children, Josh and Elizabeth Mackey; Lauren and Robbie May; her grandchildren, Chris Bryant, Cody Bryant, Ava May, Evan Mackey, Aubrey May, and Mason May; siblings, Sherrie Welch, Lisa (Don) Goatee, Shannon (Keith) Swanagan, Becky (Sam) Buck, Lisa Smith, and Rick (Gina) Dupin; and many other family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
