Deanna Berniece “Dee” Lanham Kaminski, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born in Owensboro to the late Joseph A. and Inez L. Alvey Lanham.
Dee studied in the Medical Technology Program at Nazareth College in Louisville. Her 54 years as a medical technologist included many years in the lab at the Harreld Building, employment with Doctors Harrison and Ferguson and work at the Immediate Care lab.
Mrs. Kaminski was a longtime member of Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. She had a passion for mentoring girls and volunteered with Girls, Inc. in Owensboro. Dee was also a founding member of the Owensboro Area Quilter’s Guild. Often the quilts she made were given to family, friends and charities, especially those associated with veterans. She was also an avid U.K. Basketball fan.
Most of all, she loved spending time with family. They enjoyed countless occasions playing games and making memories. Dee was especially proud that the four sons she and Chet raised were all Eagle Scouts. She also made it known that she would rather be referred to as a “mother-in-love” than “mother-in-law.” Most recently her only great-grandchild was the “light of her life.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Chester "Chet" Kaminski in 2020; a brother, Michael Wayne Lanham; sister-in-law, Lynn Rudolph; and in-laws, Chester P. and Sally Kaminski.
Mrs. Kaminski is survived by four sons, Dennis Kaminski, Joseph Kaminski (Patty), both of Owensboro, Steven Kaminski (Diana) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Christopher Kaminski (Jennifer) of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Claire Bocook (Tim), Lydia Kaminski (Matt), Nathan Kaminski (Alyssa), Peter Kaminski (Annika), and Mason and Maxim Kaminski; great-granddaughter, Louise Bocook; sisters, Marian J. Lanham and Tonya Lanham Lewis (Scott); brothers, David Scott Lanham (Lena) and Randal Anthony Lanham; a sister-in-law, Sister Sarah Anne Kaminski; brother-in-law, Gary Rudolph; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 7 at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM, with prayers at 6:30 PM, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will also be visitation Wednesday after 9:00 AM at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, 609 E 4th St, Owensboro, KY 42303. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Girls, Inc., 2130-G East 19th Street, Owensboro, KY 42303 or your charity of choice.
