David Wayne Wellman

David W. Wellman, 62, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born May 21, 1953 in Daviess Co. David was retired from the City of Orlando, FL having worked in their Water Department. He was a longtime baseball umpire having worked all levels of baseball mainly in Kentucky and Florida. He also had played baseball for many years and was a member of the team at Owensboro High School that won the state championship in 1969. David loved his three granddaughters and spending time with them and with his dogs, Lucky and Blackjack. He enjoyed going back to Florida on vacations and visiting his daughter and her family in Lakeland. He also enjoyed going to Daviess County High School basketball games where his son is a coach. David was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Wellman, a nephew, Nathan E. Wellman, and a niece, Leslie Ann Wellman.

Surviving are his daughter, Andrea and husband Dr. David Kirkpatrick of Lakeland, FL, his son, Robbie and wife Jessica Wellman of Utica, his mother, Delois Wellman of Owensboro, three granddaughters, Saylor Ann and Laney Elizabeth Kirkpatrick of Lakeland, and Riley Ann Wellman of Utica, two brothers, Bill and wife Pat Wellman of Owensboro and Mike Wellman of Atlanta, GA, three nephews, Nick Wellman and Justin Wellman, both of Owensboro, and Ross Wellman of China, and his loving companion and caregiver, Jean Wellman.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 1, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after Noon Friday at the funeral home.
