David Russell Schartung, 66, of Hall Street, Owensboro, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Owensboro Medical System. David was born in Daviess County June 9, 1944. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, entering service in 1962 and served two tours in Vietnam receiving several citations for service including a bronze star and silver star. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post # 696 and DAV in Owensboro. He attended St. Stephen Cathedral.
His father, John H. Schartung Sr., and his stepfathers, Earl Stewart and Joe Morgan, as well as a son, Joe Schartung all preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Karen Schartung, his mother, Marjorie Morgan, sisters and brothers, Ruth (Carroll) Hill, Betty (Ed) Wedding, Stacey L. Stewart, all of Owensboro and John Schartung, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12:05 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at St. Stephen Cathedral with Fr. John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and the Marine Corps League Ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m..
