David J. Ramsey

January 1, 1949 — October 15, 2012

David Jerome Ramsey, Sr., 63, of Owensboro, passed away on October 15, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Perry County, Indiana to the late James and Mary (Polk) Ramsey.

Dave was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a Bulk Plant Manager for Valor Oil where he served loyally and diligently for more than thirty eight years until his recent retirement due to illness.
Dave was a devout and active member of the East Congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses where he had served as an elder. His religion was a defining part of both his and his family's life.

Dave enjoyed classic cars, both real ones and the countless model cars he collected. He could not only recall all of the 106 cars he had owned, but the price he paid and the selling price of each car! He was an excellent automotive painter and enjoyed traveling. Much of his travel was for the purpose of his wife's photography. They did nearly everything together, including many memorable vacations to the Smoky Mountains and Gulf Shores Alabama. He was a jack of all trades and very good at most of those! He volunteered in many capacities and was a generally helpful and well liked person. Most of all, he was a family man. Dave found much joy in family, especially his beloved grandchildren who will miss him very much.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Lou (Smith) Ramsey of Owensboro; son, David J. Ramsey, Jr. (Veronica) of Owensboro; daughters, Rebecca Ramsey of Boonville, IN and Lisa Ramsey Mefford (Aaron) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Nathan and Caleb Smith of Boonville, IN and Ian Mefford of Evansville, IN; brothers, Duane, Randy, Vick and Larry Ramsey; a sister, Jamita "Sis" Beaver; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 18 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Eric Hayman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 PM until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (East Congregation) or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
