David Michael Gilliland

April 25, 1958 — August 1, 2010

David Michael Gilliland, 52, of Owensboro, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Meadowbrook Care Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. David who was a native of Birmingham, Alabama, was a chemical engineer for Dart Polymers in Owensboro. Raised in Decatur, Georgia, he was a 1981 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, and loved his work. He said he would never retire. He was a very social, engaging, warm person and a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. David enjoyed gardening and music, playing his guitar and singing. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, an elder, a member of the choir, and served on several committees. His father, H. Daniel Gilliland preceded him in death in 1989.

Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Jean Gilliland, a daughter, Melissa Gilliland of Louisville, Ky., his mother, Ora Lee Gilliland of LaGrange, GA., a sister, Linda (Paul) Gilliland Newberry of Conyers, GA., a nephew, Hudson Newberry of Conyers, his in-laws, J.L. and Marjorie Towery of Marietta, GA., brothers-in-law, Jeff Towery of Austell, GA., and David (Karen) Towery of Acworth, GA., and their sons, Jack and Luke Towery.

Funeral services for Mr. Gilliland will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will be no visitation Monday prior to services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society-Cincinnati Hope Lodge, or to First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro.
