David A. Fuqua, 85, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2015. He was born March 19, 1930, in Owensboro to the late Cleatus M. and Susie F. Moore Fuqua.
David was a passionate man who loved to work hard, help others, serve as a deacon at Hall Street Baptist Church where he was a member for 61 years, and rescue any Volkswagen Rabbit he could find. A businessman at heart, David owned a car lot, drycleaners and drove a truck as an independent contractor.
David and Mattie were members of the Kentucky chapter of Campers on Mission for 20 years. Much of that time he served as project coordinator, overseeing dozens of projects at churches, Christian schools and campgrounds throughout Kentucky and Indiana.
David loved God and his family deeply, and is survived by his wife and best friend, Mattie, of 64 years. He was especially proud of his son, Ronald Fuqua, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl, of Chattanooga. His great joys included his grandchildren Lauren Lawson (Mike), Bradley Fuqua (Samantha), and three great-grandchildren Reid, Laney and Clara. He is also survived by his brother, Walker L. (Lois) Fuqua of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 6, 2015, from 1:00 until 6:00 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, 900 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, Kentucky.
