David Paul Dittmer, 77, of 4221 Edgewood Court, Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at his home. A native of Huntingburg, In., he began with Ken-Rad in 1942 as a foreman while still in high school. He was over 50 high school girls and they worked in the assembly of receiving tubes. After high school, he served in the U. S. Army during the later years of World War II, and then completed his collegiate work at Evansville College. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Dittmer returned to General Electric in Owensboro in 1952 and retired as Manager of Export Sales after 32 years of progression within the company. He was of an Elfan status with the company. He had been president of the Dar-Nek Club. He enjoyed all sports, particularly baseball, bowling, and golf. He was the original manager of the White Sox of the Southern Little League, a past Junior Achievement Advisor and a past president of Windridge Country Club. He was a member of the Toastmaster Club and had been active in Dale Carnegie. Playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles were also activities that he enjoyed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert & Rose Gardner Dittmer, and two brothers, Francis & Bill Dittmer.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Dittmer, also known as Alice Raye, during her professional organ playing days, a son, Dennis Dittmer of Owensboro, a daughter and her husband, Connie & Retired Colonel Jim Bolton of Fairway, Kansas, a sister and her husband, Margie & Bill Klee of Owensboro, five grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday, April 11, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
