Mr. David Vernon Denton died Monday, July 14, 2003 at Jackson Park Christian Home in Nashville, TN. He was born in Henderson County, Kentucky on May 24, 1913. His parents, David H. and Virginia Royster Denton, owned and operated a farm near Robards. He attended public schools and graduated from Robards High School in 1921. Mr. Denton had three sister and two brothers, all deceased.

Mr. Denton served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a ships inspector and shipfitter at the Naval Landing Force Equipment Depot in Norfolk, Virginia until his discharge at the end of the war in October of 1945.

Mr. Denton married Dorothy Carrico while still serving with the Navy. Mrs. Denton passed away in the 44th year of their marriage in March 1986 from acute leukemia. Their son, Darrell Austin Denton passed away in 2001.

Following military service, Mr. Denton returned to operating his own business as a dealer for Snap-On Tools. Initially he served customers in seventeen counties in western Kentucky, but as his business grew, he worked only in Daviess County. Mr. Denton owned his business for 42 years. During that time he purchased a hone on Glendale Avenue in Owensboro and in 1949, a four-acre homesite on Highway 405 between Thruston and Maceo, Kentucky. He and his family were active members of Thruston United Methodist Church, where he held many leadership positions, including serving as a member of the Administrative Board. Later, when he moved back to Owensboro, he moved his membership to St. John United Methodist Church, where he made numerous friends, attending regularly until poor health limited his mobility.
