David W. Conkright

David W. Conkright passed away suddenly on December 21, 2024. He was born to the late John and Charlesetta (Wathen) Conkright on October 9th, 1952. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1970 and Western Kentucky University in 1975 with an accounting degree. David was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Western. David worked his entire professional career as an accountant. Most notably at Ragu, Wyndalls Foodand, and he retired from David Hocker and Associates in 2014. He also served as treasurer for several folks running for a political office in the Owensboro area.

He married his loving wife Laura Daum Conkright in August 1985, and they were married for over 39 years. David loved sports and played baseball at Catholic High and later coached his son in baseball and daughter in softball. He was a UK fan and tried never to miss watching a football or basketball game on TV.

David was an avid golfer his entire life. He enjoyed spending time at the golf course with his many friends, and especially his son Chris. Over the course of his lifetime, he made three holes-in-one. He was a member of Owensboro Country Club for over 30 years, including serving as a past president.

David enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the beach. He looked forward every summer to family vacations along the Florida panhandle and spending time during the winter in Fort Myers, FL. He also loved being around his children’s many close friends. One of the great joys of his life was becoming a grandfather to Brady and Camille. He was affectionately known to his grandchildren and many friends as Papa Conk.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joe Bowen, his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Daum, and his grand-dog Butter (his “buddy”). David is survived by his wife Laura of 39 years and his children; Chris Conkright of Nashville, TN and Lindsey Conley (Patrick) of Nashville, TN; his brother Chuck Conkright (Becky) of Owensboro, KY; his sister Vicki Bowen of Owensboro, KY; and his grandchildren Brady Conley and Camille Conley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:30 Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
