David “Pete” Ambs, 80, died Monday, December 4, 2023, at Riverside Care and Rehab. The Daviess County native was born December 3, 1943, to the late Frank and Mary Young Ambs. Pete graduated from Daviess County High School, class of 1962. He managed the Dr. John Dixon farm from 1962-1974. Pete was also employed in maintenance with the City of Owensboro and the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport and returning to the city street department before retirement. He was skilled in welding, electrical, and maintenance. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and raising ALL kinds of animals. He was a very happy guy who was loved by all and would help anyone that needed help, even those who had wronged him.
In addition to his parents, Pete also was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Ambs in 1990; brother, Frank Ambs Jr. and a granddaughter, Megan Ambs in 1989.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Linda Miles Ambs; daughters, Kris Lanham and husband Ricky of Shelbyville and Tammy Ambs of Owensboro; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; sister, Evie Pruden; brother, Stephen “Hubba” Ambs; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will have a private memorial service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
