Dave W. Cowan, 77, of Maceo, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his home. He was born on February 7, 1936 in Union Co., KY to the late Perry B. and Mildred Woodring Cowan. Dave was retired after 25 years as the Auto Center Manager at Sears, Roebuck, and Co. Before working at Sears, he was with Gross Firestone about 15 years. After retiring from Sears, Dave went to work for Owensboro Catholic High School as their Property Manager for about five years before retiring from there. He loved woodworking and while at Catholic High, he designed and constructed all the computer stations for the Computer Lab. He also constructed all their trophy cases, some bookcases in some of the offices, and remodeled their main office. Dave also loved mechanics, mowing his lawn, art, drawing, and meeting people. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to all. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Men's Bible Class, and the PrimeTimers Senior Group at the church.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Catherine D. Cowan, four sons, Gary W. Cowan and wife Cam of Jacksonville, FL, Jeff A. Cowan and wife Ginny of Aurora, IL, Steve M. Cowan of Marietta, GA, and Chris S. Cowan of Henderson, six grandchildren, David C. (Nikki) Cowan, Ashley (Charlie) Cain, and James Cowan, all of Owensboro, Nicholas (Jenny) Cowan of Aurora, Heath (Cami) Cowan of Batavia, IL, and Shawn P. (Jennifer) Cowan of Louisville, seven great grandchildren, and two sisters, Evadine (Larry) Render of Owensboro and Judy (Bill) Beckman of Erwin, TN.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 20, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10:00 A.M. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. The Men's Bible Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
