Darrell Edward Henry, 59, of 3404 Royal Drive, Owensboro, passed away on February 3, 2009 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Owensboro and a 35 year employee of AT&T, and had served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as an air traffic controller. He was a member of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Darrell had a tremendous enthusiasm for life and truly never met a stranger. He loved going to the YMCA and swimming, enjoying meeting new people and making them friends.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen, a son Warren Edward, and daughter and son-in-law, Kristy-Jill and Terry Cooney, two "grand-boys", Easton Michael and Hayden Maddox who always managed to put a sparkle in Popaw's eyes. His parents, Hooker and Margie Henry, brothers; Wayne, Gary and Jerry (Connie) Henry also survive as well as his mother-in-law, Thelma Brown.
He was preceded in death by his friend and father-in-law, Russell E. Brown in August of 2008.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Cemetery where full military honors will be presented by VFW Post# 696, following the funeral. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church.
