Dalcye Jean Gist

Dalcye Jean Miller Gist, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2006 after a brief illness. Born on September 20, 1928 in McLean County, she was the devoted daughter of the late Ishmael Miller (who died in 2000) and Nina Vanover (who died in 1999) Miller. She attended school in Rumsey; graduated as salutatorian from Calhoun High School at the age of 15; attended Owensboro Junior College; worked at the County Health Department; and was a bookkeeper at General Tire and later at Durbin Tire Company before retiring in 1987. She was preceded in death by Rev. Robert Gist, her husband of 20 years. Her brother, Wendell L. Miller, also preceded her in death on March 9, 2006.

She is survived by a sister, Glenda Stroud of Island, KY; nieces Lisa McDavid, Kimberley Burley, Wendy Cummings, and Melinda Evans; six great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved friend of 60 years Nadine Bennett of Owensboro.

Services are 10 A.M. Friday, March 17, 2006 at Glenn Funeral Home officiated by her uncle, Rev. Morton Vanover, followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Thursday and after 8:30 A.M. on Friday.
