Coy Edwin Ball

June 16, 1928 — May 31, 2016

Dr. Coy Edwin Ball, 87, passed away May 31, 2016. Beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, physician, friend, and partner, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We all are thankful for his well lived life. The world is a better place for his having lived in it.

Coy, (aka Eddie) was born June 16, 1928, at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital, to Carson and Lillian Wright Ball. He grew up in Beech Grove, KY and graduated from Beech Grove High School where he played basketball for the Beech Grove Gorillas. Soon after leaving McLean County for the then Western Kentucky State Teacher's College he married his beloved wife, Trilby Whobrey Ball in 1947. Upon graduation he and Trib moved to Hawesville where he taught school. In 1952 he was drafted into the United States Army and attended Officers Candidate School. In 1955 he boarded a ship to Korea only to arrive and find truce had been declared. Upon his return to the states the G.I. bill allowed him to attend medical school at the University of Louisville from which he received his medical degree in 1962. After beginning his career in Glasgow, KY, Coy and his family moved to Owensboro in 1964. Dr. Ball was a general practitioner with a specialty in anesthesia.

Eddie and Trib had a wonderful relationship, enjoying lots of fun together throughout their 60+ year marriage. They loved bluegrass music, Republican politics, living on the river, having parties and spending time with family and friends. Eddie especially loved NCAA basketball, Mavericks Sunday School class, golf and good jokes. He served on the Board of Regents of Western Kentucky University. After Trib passed away, he became an avid duplicate bridge player, achieving his Life Master recognition in the fall of 2015.

Eddie was predeceased by his wife, Trilby. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Jon R. Harris, Jr ("Jay"); his son and daughter-in-law David and Christy Ball; his three grandchildren Jon R. Harris, III ("Jack"), Caleb Edwin Harris ("Cal"), and Keeley Frances Harris; and many dear extended family members.

Coy and his family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all of the many friends and family that have been so supportive over these past few months.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Owensboro. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Beech Grove KY.
