Connie Darlene McElwain, 58, of Owensboro, passed away March 14, 2014 at OHRH after a long battle of illness. She has made her journey home. She was born to the late Frank Dowell Sr. and Betty Dowell in Flint, MI. She was the Co-Owner of G&C Flea Market. She enjoyed listening to her Country Music, spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, working in her flower gardens, watching her humming birds, and writing poems.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Gary McElwain; sister, Alice Penrod; brother Dwayne Dowell; and nieces Marlinda Clark, Angel Heather Clark, and Hope Ann McElwain.
Surviving are her daughters, Frances (Ronnie) Rice Jr., Tosia (Steve) Barnett, and Shanan (Charles Owen. Eight grandchildren, Virginia (Michael) Leonard, Amber (Mike) Conover, Garrett and Sabrina Durbin, Zachery Blackburn, Michael Price, Aaron and Jessica Owen. Great-grandchildren, Brennan Brown, Connor Leonard, Dominic Blackburn, Kendra Simpson, and Allyna Huffines. A brother, Frank (Glenda) Dowell Jr.; three sisters, Diana Dowell, Linda Walker, and Vickie Parker; brother-in-law, Darrell (Sharon) McElwain, Sister-in-laws, Louise Wilson, and Janie West. Special friends, Frank Kessenger, Meridith Maddox, Erin Matlock, Karly Kulin, Felicia McKannan, and Kaylene Weeks.
Services will be Wednesday, March 19, at 2:00PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-8PM and Wednesday 11:00AM until the time of service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Heartford House of Owensboro. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
