Commie Marie Carter Mattingly, 78, of 2103 Wink Ct., Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at her home. She was born in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late James Alva and Gertrude Burden Carter. She had been a nurse's assistant at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital and also started Acme Plumbing and Heating Co. with her husband, Alfred, Sr. in 1967. She was a charter member of Immaculate Catholic Church for 54 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, a number of spectator sports, and reading. She dearly loved her special cat, Emma. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred S. Mattingly, Sr. on October 6, 1992 and a son, Garry David Mattingly on July 25, 2008.
Surviving are 11 children, daughters, Linda Mason and husband Nick of Powder Springs, Ga., Connie M. Brown and husband Tom of Owensboro, Mary Susan Mattingly of Louisville, Lisa M. Lanham and husband Ron of Owensboro, Terry L. Mattingly of Masonville, Joni L. Arcuri and husband Paul of Hollywood, Fla., and Sherry French and husband Todd of Owensboro, sons, Alfred S. Mattingly, Jr. and wife Judy, Barry Dennis Mattingly and wife Maria, Mark L. Mattingly, and Darren J. Mattingly and wife Stacey, all of Owensboro, 36 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, a sister, Jean Morris of Owensboro, 3 nieces and nephew, Kim Jagoe, Lynn Brown, and Robert Morris, all of Owensboro, and best friends, Martha and Les Reed.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Immaculate Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
