Cody Allen Newton

Cody Allen Newton, 37, of Owensboro, passed away September 5, 2026. He was born September 7, 1988, in Owensboro to Brian Newton and Jennifer Kirby. A welder by trade, Cody was talented with his hands and possessed the kind of determination that made him believe anything worth doing was worth doing better than the person before him. He could build just about anything. It might take him a little extra time to get there, but one way or another, he would figure it out.

Intelligent and endlessly curious, he seemed to carry around an incredible amount of seemingly useless information, though, much to everyone’s frustration, he was usually accurate. His family lovingly describes him as “a pain in the…,” a distinction he likely earned honestly and wore well. Cody was a collector of rocks, arrowheads, and an impressive assortment of other random treasures that caught his attention along the way.

Beneath his stubbornness and drive was a genuinely good heart. He cared deeply for others and was always willing to help someone in need. He was a free spirit and a rolling stone, never particularly interested in standing still for too long. The things Cody built, the treasures he collected, and the people he helped are things his family will always cherish and remember.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Colin Lee Newton and grandparents, Sylvester Newton Sr., and Robert P. Carrico Sr.

Cody is survived by his son, Riley Newton; parents, Brian (Beth) Newton and Jennifer (Greg) Kirby; sister, Kali (Steven) Underhill; step-sisters, Kaylee Cox, Megan Cox, and Courtney (Jordon) Boling; grandparents, Donna Ivey Hamilton and Ruby N. Newton; nieces and nephews, Beckham, Sutton, Aedyn, Jayce, Zhiyah, Rhys, Hunter, Parker, and Conner, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, concluding with family and friends sharing stories.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the OASIS Women’s Shelter or Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention.
