Clifford Samuel Sam Rhoads, Sr., 93, of 1432 Brentwood Drive in Owensboro, formerly of 6721 Oakford Road in Stanley died at his home on August 26th, 2006. He was born May 14, 1913 in Ohio County to the late Samuel Coleman and Maggie Baine Rhoads. He was a member and Deacon at Century Christian Church, former Chairman of Deacons at Stanley Baptist Church, and a past Master Mason of Lodge 473 of the Eastern Star in Stanley. He was a volunteer at the River Park Center. He worked in the oil fields of Kentucky for over 60 years. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and playing dominoes with friends. He loved being surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded, in death by his former wife of 62 years, Flora Belle Himes Rhoads, his son, Clifford S. Rhoads, Jr. and his daughter, Janet Rhoads Riley.
Survivors include his wife Thelma Bush Rhoads, a son; Joseph Terrill (Deloris) Rhoads of Stanley, daughters; Linda (Roy) Thompson of Stanley, Sandy (Wayde) Jones of Evansville, IN, stepsons; Jim (Jean) Bush of Brentwood, TN, Rick Bush of Owensboro, Stepdaughters; Patty (Steve) Oglesby of Elberfeld, IN, Bonnie (Bob) Nations of Cape Girardeau, MO., grandchildren; Tracey Jo (Mike) Stites of Rockport, KY, Dawn Rhoads of Stanley, Stephanie (Clay) Lester of Lexington, KY, step grandchildren; Christy (Bill) Sullivan of Spring Hill, TN, Adam (Desera) Nations of Cape Girardeau, MO, Seth (Turya) Nations of Los Angeles, CA, Holly Nations of Los Angeles, CA, Sean Oglesby of Evansville, IN, and Robyn Oglesby of Evansville, IN; great grandchildren, Tonya Cornelius, Jason (Amanda) Riley, Bryan Fulkerson, Mark (April) Fulkerson, all of Stanley, KY, Casey, Bailey and Samantha Stites of Rockport, KY., step great grandchildren; T.J. and Austin Sullivan of Spring Hill, TN, Whitney Nations of Mesa, AZ, Avagail Nations of Cape Girardeau, MO, great great grandchildren: Robert and Jessica Luttrell of Ohio County, Lukas and Jasmine Riley and Kaylee DeAnn Fulkerson all of Stanley, KY, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday at Century Christian Church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 until 8:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home, and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Century Christian Church.
