Clem Cecil

March 17, 1912 — August 17, 2004

Clem Cecil, 92, formerly of Thruston, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at the Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in West Louisville, Ky. to the late Oliver & Loretta Murphy Cecil. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was retired from farming. He had farmed the T. J. Bartlett and Jagoe farms before purchasing his own farm in Knottsville in 1965. He was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, past member of the Trust Division on Farm Management at Central Bank & Trust Co., past member of the Lions Club, past president of the Ky. Farm Bureau of Daviess Co., had served on the board of the Knottsville Credit Union and at St. Williams Catholic Church, and was a Ky. Colonel.

He loved to fish and one of his greatest enjoyments was going fishing with his brothers on their yearly fishing trip to Cumberland Lake and also going fishing with his grandchildren at Ky. Lake. He enjoyed helping out with the cooking at some of the local Catholic church picnics and gardening where he always made sure that he gave plenty of vegetables to some of the rest homes in the area and to the HELP Office.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Anna Elizabeth Wink Cecil on June 28, 1980, a son, John David Cecil on Oct. 4, 1975, a daughter, Margaret Cecil Terry on Nov. 27, 1991, a grandson, Michael Greene on Nov. 27, 1967, a great granddaughter, Ashley Mattingly on Feb. 15, 2002, a brother, Dick Cecil on Aug. 7, 1994, and two sisters, Teresa Ling on Jan. 22, 1999, and Toby Matthews on Aug. 29, 2002.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Castlen Cecil, five daughters and spouses, Sister Ann Patrice Cecil of Maple Mount, Ky., Dorothy & Doug Hood of Owensboro, Joan & Mickey Greene of Rockport, In., Rose Mary & Cyrus Bubby Sharp of Gilbertsville, Ky., Teresa & Jeff Gray of Philpot, two stepdaughters and spouses, Carolyn & Ronald Brown of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Mary Ann & John McKinney of Richmond, Ky., four sons and spouses, Thomas M. & Mary (DeHart) Cecil of Philpot, Joseph C. & Diann (Meredith) Cecil and Donald L. & Charlotte (Schrecker) Cecil, all of Owensboro, and William P. Cecil of Powder Springs, Ga., four stepsons and spouses, Earl & Peggy (Franey) Castlen of Lewisport, Ky., Donald & Sandy (Johnson) Castlen of Philpot, and Sherill & Julie (Head) Castlen and Tim & Debbie (Young) Castlen, all of Maceo, four sisters and spouses, Jean Keller, Margaret Oberst, and Alicia & Bill Wright, all of Owensboro, and Polly & Jake Leibfreid of Bowling Green, Ky. and a brother and his spouse, Louis & Mary Elizabeth Cecil of Owensboro, 29 grandchildren, and 11 step grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

Services will be at 12 Noon Friday, August 20, at St. Williams Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday with prayers at 6:30 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home.
