Clay Burns, 30, of Lexington passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born in Owensboro on November 17, 1980, he is the son of John and Janey Sparks Burns; was a 1999 graduate of Apollo High School; and was a member of First Christian Church. Clay's passions were music, cars, and animals. He was an amazing drummer and played with the group "Metatron" and had written music for the band. He loved cars and working on cars which fueled his love for racing. He was a certified mechanic and often worked on cars for family and friends. Clay also enjoyed reading, especially history. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Allan Sparks in 1996 and Cecil Rodney Burns in 2003 and an aunt Rachel Burns Blanton.
Surviving are his parents, John and Janey Burns; the love of his life, Jessica Bagot; brothers, Turner Burns (and fiance' Mandy Reed) of Lexington and Tate Burns (and fiance' Lauren Himel) of Chicago; grandmothers, Katherine Burns and Elaine Sparks of Owensboro; aunts, Marla (Jim) Bourne of Statesboro, GA and Kathy (David) Benz of Bowling Green, and Carol (Keith) Blandford of Owensboro; and many cousins and a host of friends.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at First Christian Church with Rev. Jake Caldwell officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church.
