Dr. Claude Augustin Rakotoniaina, 62, of Owensboro, died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Majunga, Madagascar, Dr Rakotoniaina was a doctor of veterinary medicine, a teacher and researcher, and formerly taught at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. He was preceded in death by his father, Rakotoniaina, and brother, Leon Rakotoniaina.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Anna Rakotoniaina, sons, Andry Ted Joseph Rakotoniaina, Allen Lyle Hendry Rakotoniaina, Adney Lee Sinclair Rakotoniaina, and daughter, Ann-Claude Noelle Rakotoniaina, all of Owensboro, his mother, Parfaite Razainirina Rakotoniaina of Madagascar, sisters, Jacqueline and Joseline Rakotoniaina,; brothers, Miandry, Jacques, and David Rakotoniaina, all of Madagascar; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Amelie Rakotoarisoa and brother and sister-in-law, Marc and Eliane Rakotoarisoa.
Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen Cathedral, Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Vaughan officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday, at Glenn Funeral Home until time to leave for the church. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
