Claude Hopper, Jr., 84, of 2017 York Drive, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Matlock, KY, a son of the late Claude and Sarah Artelia Scott Harper, he was a graduate of Western Kentucky State College and held a Masters degree from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Hopper, a registered professional electrical engineer, retired from General Electric, where he had been manager of special products operations, was named on five patents for electrical equipment, and was a member of The ELFUN Society. Mr. Hopper served in the 20th Army Air Force during World War II and received the bronze star, and was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James F. Hopper, and his sister, Ruby Gray.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Francis Moore Hopper, his children, Dr. Steve M. Hopper and his wife May of Potomac, MD, Dr. David W. Hopper and his wife Becky of Danville, KY, and Cheryl Ann Van Waes and her husband Steve of Murray, KY.; his grandchildren, Jad Hopper of Potomac, MD, Jason Hopper and Michael Hopper, both of Danville, and Leah Van Waes, of Murray; his brother-in-law, Guy Moore of Owensboro; and a nephew, Dr. Harry Gray of Pasadena, CA.
Services are at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 11:00 a.m. Friday. Entombment will be in Christ Chapel Mausoleum at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
