Clara Wood

Clara Wood, 91, of Island, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at the Riverside Manor Health Care Center in Calhoun. She was born December 22, 1916 to the late James and Elmina Hatfield Halstead in Henderson County. She was a member of the Buttonsberry Baptist Church and had worked at G. E. for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Wood on August 4, 1992, and a grandson, Charles Michael Highland, and 13 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her son, Charles Highland of Calhoun, her daughter, Shelia Hampton of Rumsey, a step-daughter, Faye Wingfield of Owensboro; eleven grandchildren, Sandie Grills, Clara Hennessy, Debbie King, Bobby Joe Highland, Jerry Tinnett, Misty Gish, Sarah Ann King, Bobby Hampton, Jr., Connie Fleischmann, Terry Wingfield, and Ron Wingfield; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews.

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Island Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
