Christopher Luke McAteer -son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and frienddied on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Bowling Green Medical Center. He was 18 years old.
Born on August 7, 1996 in Tennessee to a nurse and veterinarian, he was reared in a Christian home where he was taught about the love and sovereignty of God, and most importantly the grace and forgiveness found through His son, Jesus Christ. Luke was a capable hunter, athlete, fisherman, outdoorsman, beach lover, jokester, and writer. He was best known for his quick wit, intelligence, humorous impressions, friendly personality, and amazing smile. Thankfully, Luke knew the Lord, and had recently rededicated his life. He had been pursuing a daily relationship with Christ in the recent weeks before his unfortunate loss with the battle of depression.
Luke was an engaging individual who spent much time with his brother, Zack. The last day of his life started out happy before his tragic event. After sharing a laughter-filled breakfast with his stepfather and brother, the day got even better as Luke's last picture was of himself with a big smile and Zack spending the afternoon reminiscing about their childhood escapades while turkey hunting. There is no understanding of how life changed so dramatically in the short window of time between his display of total happiness, and obvious demonstration of complete despair. Therein lies the pain and imprisonment of depression.
In remembering Luke's life, we ask that you remember his happy times, and his truly good heart. No one can judge the depth of a pain they have never felt themselves. Luke lived courageously as long as he could, but in the end his last words were.."I love Jesus, and I want to go home to be with Him." As Christians, Easter is the day we celebrate eternal life through Jesus Christ. Signing his own donor card at the young age of 17, Luke chose himself to give the gift of life. Through his death, and organ donation, six others were given a chance to live.
He is survived by his parents; Dr. & Mrs. Randall King (Karla) of Owensboro, KY; Dr. & Mrs. Christopher McAteer (Pam) of Lebanon, TN; his brother, Zackary Lawton McAteer of Owensboro, KY, Stepsiblings; Lyndsey King, Ashley King, Tyler Lasater, Chelsey King, Bailey King, Andrew King, and AnnaKate King; his paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank McAteer (Sandra) of Marietta, GA; his maternal grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. Milton Gardner (Nancy) of Thomasville, GA; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
