Christine Mayes Stone

Christine Mayes Stone, 89, of Philpot, Kentucky, came to the end of life's journey and took the hand of Jesus as He guided her safely home on November 4, 2013. She was surrounded by her children at the home of her daughter, Becky Baker, where she had lived for seven years. Each weekend she would visit at the home of her son, James, and attend Karns Grove Baptist Church, where she had been a member for 54 years. She was a Christian, a loving mother and grandmother and was dedicated to her family. Some of her favorite hobbies were working in her flower garden, painting, crocheting and crafting, she also volunteered for the Daviess McLean Disaster Relief Team, and enjoyed every moment spent with her family and friends.
Christine was born on July 25, 1924, to the late Susie and Nelson Mayes. She was married to James Curt Stone for 45 years until his death in 1988. She retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital after 19 years. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Bill, Virgil and Walter Mayes; two sisters, Leona Carrol and Lucy Snider; and a son, Roger Dale Stone.
Survivors include two sons, Danny (Gayle) Stone of Florrisant, MO and James (Beverly) Stone of Philpot; five daughters, Becky (Jim) Baker of Philpot, Brenda (Irvin) Coopman, Sharlene (Jerry) Howard, both of Owensboro, Beverly (Dwight) Lovan of Frankfort, and Lisa (Clay) Lambert of Whitesville; a brother, Forest Mayes of Arlington, VA; and she was blessed with 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Karns Grove Cemetery, Philpot, Kentucky.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky or the charity of ones choice.
