Christine B. Smithson

Christine Smithson, 85, of The Carmel Home, Owensboro, died there Sunday, May 1, 2005. Born in Daviess County, a daughter of the late Robert and Cora Vanover Bellwood, she was an active member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in a quartet and the choir, and was a member of United Methodist Women. She loved to read and spent countless hours recording for the blind. Her husband, Arthur Duncan Smithson, preceded her in death in 1999.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann Johnson of Owensboro, her son, Robert Smithson of Florence, four grandchildren, Cathy Reed of Florence, Lisa Frey of Columbus, OH, and Mike Johnson and Jenny Baker, both of Owensboro, eight great-grandchildren, and her sister, Velma Lowden of South Bend.

Services are at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
