Today we celebrate our sister on Earth who received her heavenly wings. Christina Marie Hagan, resident of Owensboro, KY, peacefully passed away December 1, 2017 surrounded by her dedicated and loving family at Heartland Villa Senior Living Community at the age of 54. "Chris," "Chrissy," "Sissy," and "Christina Marie," was a spirited breath of fresh air and a loving social butterfly. She never met a stranger.
Born in Owensboro at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital on June 18, 1963, she graduated from Mattingly school in 1984. As an active member in the Owensboro community, Chris achieved and had numerous accomplishments; participating in Special Olympics, being named Ambassador of the Buddy Walk, and an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She attended mass there every Saturday at 4:30pm with her mother and step-father, and when her health started to decline, Christina always made sure to watch mass on TV every Sunday. She retired after working many years at the bingo hall and Pinocchio Deli. Christina enjoyed swimming, bowling, and track and field.
She is survived by her father, Ronald Lee Hagan; mother, Linda Mahoney Stavrakis and John T. Stavrakis; sisters, Sarah Hagan (Mark) Hyland, of Prospect, KY, Rhonda Hagan Collins of Lexington, and Amy Hagan Powers, of Chapin, SC; step-brother, George (Betsy) Stavrakis of Cincinnati, OH; step-sister, Stephanie, also of Cincinnati, OH; nieces, Malorie, Harlie, and Alexis; and nephews, Nathan and Jacob.
A funeral liturgy will be held 12:30pm, Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3pm to 6pm Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers beginning at 6pm.
The Down Syndrome Creed:
My face may be different but my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry.
I take pride in my gains.
I was sent here among you to teach you to love,
As God in the Heavens looks down from above.
To Him I'm no different; His love knows no bounds.
It's those here among you in cities and towns
That judge me by standards that man has imparted
But the family He's chosen will help me get started.
For I'm one of His children so special and few
That came here to learn the same lessons as you.
That love is acceptance; it must come from the heart.
We all have the same purpose though not the same start.
The Lord gave me life to live and embrace
And I'll do it as you do — just at my own pace.
