Chester David Roby

April 27, 1924 — November 18, 2007

Chester David C.D. Roby, 83, of Owensboro, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born April 27, 1924 in Ohio County, Mr. Roby was the son of the late James Bernard and Mary Bertha Smiser Roby; served in the 5th Army during World War II and was in Anzio, Italy and North Africa; retired from the US Air Force after 20 years in 1964 serving most of his time as a Fireman; retired from Martin Marietta Aluminum in Hawesville in 1987 after 17 years; was a member of United Steel Workers Union 7325; and was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. His greatest joy was spending time with and caring for his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred Dean Powers Roby; a daughter Marsha Coffman and her husband John of Morganfield; grandchildren, Emily Gregson Bell and her husband Bucky of Owensboro and Daniel Hatchett and his wife Sonya of Georgetown; step-grandson, Ryan C. Coffman and his wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Mazden Ng, Roby Jane Taylor Bell, and Emma Grace Elizabeth Bell; step-great-grandchildren, Amber Duggins, PFC Ryan Duggins, and Cody Coffman; sisters; Hattie Mae Hurst and her husband Harvey and Alice Cole and her husband Kenneth of Owensboro; brothers, James B. Roby and his wife Lucy of Michigan and William L. Roby and his wife Kay of Whitesville; and many nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Mr. Robys nephew, Father Brian Roby officiating followed by entombment Rosehill Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Monday and after 11 A.M. on Tuesday.
