Chester P. Ray 79, formerly of Owensboro, passed away under the care of Hospice in Pensacola, Florida on April 22, 2026.
Chester was born July 2nd, 1946, to the late Earl and Nanny Ray of Maceo, KY. He was married to Nina Renfrow for 37 years until her death in 2004. Chester worked for CSX on the railroad and later retired from Daviess County School System and loved working at Maceo Elementary with all the kids. He was a member of Maceo Baptist Church. Chester was a volunteer for Western KY Hospice, and he enjoyed spending time with family, and checking his grandkids out of school and not telling their parents until after the fact. He lived to love. Chester loved his friends, loved talking about the past, and loved celebrating everyone’s birthday with a good song…He was an avid UK fan.
Chester was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a wonderful friend.
Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nina Mae Ray; and his wife’s great uncle, Jessie Horsely.
Chester is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Kenny) Brandle of Spanish Fort, AL; his brother, Donnie (Freida) Ray of Maceo, KY; a sister, Margaret (Jerry) Huff of Owensboro; brother, Gail (Becky) Ray of Utica, KY; his grandson, Nicholas Aaron Chase (Delaney) Brandle; granddaughters, Alyssa (Matt) Bolton and Kera (Kyle) Tignor; 5 great-grandchildren; his wife’s great aunt, Anna (Doodle) Horsely; and many cousins, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
The funeral service for Chester will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Entombment to follow in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Friday May 8, 2026, and from 10 until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
