Chester "Chet" Lee Rather, 75, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2016. Chester was born on February 11, 1941 to Corbitt Rather Sr. and Nina Lee Pendleton Rather in Owensboro. Chet worked for Kentucky Electronics for a number of years but then changed career paths and retired as a millwright with Millwrights Local No 1080. He was a member and deacon at Lewis Lane Baptist Church. As an outdoorsman Chet enjoyed fishing, hunting, and looking for arrowheads. He was a member of the Bluegrass Fast Draw Club where he was also known as "LightFoot". Above all else Chet loved God and family and never let anything else come before them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Corbitt Rather Sr. and Nina and Richard Basham, and brothers, Corbitt Rather Jr. and Ronnie Rather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Loretta Voyles Rather; children, Kim Johnson, Mark Rather (Sandy), Donna Allgood (Allen), LoriAnn Carr (Greg), Brian Rather (Sherri), and Cara Rather Cooper (Ed); grandchildren, Christopher Goldman (Jenny), Donald Goldman (Jennifer), Michael Cooper (Jackie), Kayla Rather, Jimmy Hook (Megan), Joshua Cooper (Torrey), Emily Allgood, Marka Rather, Rebecca Gray (Jeremy), Jessica Stovall (Logan), Nick Cooper (Alexiss), Zach Johnson, Jared Carr, Cody Rather (Livia), and Jordan Carr; great grandchildren, Alasana Sky, Kinley Hampton, Asher Tapp-Winters, Cowan Wolf Goldman, Kahlyn Ni'Lyn Goldman, and Aurora Cooper; sister, Charlene Damin (Art); sisters-in-law, Phyllis Roemer (Tom) and Geraldine Voyles; and brother-in-laws Casper Voyles Jr. (Brenda) and Gene Robbins.
Services will be 11 am Tuesday August 9, 2016 at Lewis Lane Baptist Church with Pastor Charlie Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 3 pm until 8 pm Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 am Tuesday at Lewis Lane Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
