Chester Miller

Chester Davis Miller, 96, of Owensboro passed away March 25, 2017, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was born January 15, 1921 in Daviess County to the late Chester Gordon and Mae Davis Miller. Chester graduated from Utica High School and attended Louisville Business College before being drafted into the U.S. Army's 247 Engineers, where he served in Germany, France, Belgium and Holland from 1943 to 1945 and received a Bronze Star Medal while in Germany. In 1951, after working for the Harrelson Seed Co., he opened and operated Lawn and Garden Center at the corner of Parrish Ave. and Carter Rd. until he retired in 1976. Chester was a member of First Baptist Church and Beacon Sunday School Class. He was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed all kinds of sports including playing tennis for many years after retirement.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Roger Davis Miller, a sister, Sue Nally and brothers, Doug and J.C. Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years Mildred (Millie) Oost Miller; daughter, Mary Ann Leucht and her husband Bob of Owensboro; granddaughter, Nina Faye Hayden of Owensboro; sister, Joan Morgan and her husband Henry; sister-in-law, Mary Miller all of Utica; sister-in-law, Karen Miller of Stoutsville, OH; nieces, Sally Crow, Christina Morgan, Lee Carol Main, Mary Kay Starkey, Lisa Grady, and Carolyn Davis; and nephews, Doug Miller Jr., David Miller, and Daniel Miller.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and will be officiated by Dr. Paul Strahan and Will Smith. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
