Chester H. Kruger

Chester H. Kruger, 92, of Newman, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 8, 1918 to the late C.W. and Margaret Miller Kruger in Daviess County. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, and was present at D-Day, and served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He was former owner of Kruger's Grocery Store in Newman, KY, was a farmer, and retired from Owensboro Riverport. He enjoyed playing bingo, having visits from his family and friends, and was voted to be a member of the Hall of Fame at the Hermitage Center, and was the best granddaddy ever! He was a 1937 graduate of DCHS and voted most handsome in his class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Kruger in 1998, and a son, Louis Kruger in 1996, and a brother, Randall Kruger.

Survivors include his daughter, Juanita Kruger Carter of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Donna (Butch) Basham, Mitzi (Michael) Finn, Greg Carter, Becky (Rick) Roberts, Kim (Brian) Mezur and Jeremy Kruger; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke Spinks, Natalie Spinks, Madalyn Roberts, Tyler Mezur, Emily Mezur, Tanner Mezur, and Mason Kruger; two brothers, Walter and Harold Kruger, both of Owensboro; a special cousin, Don Miller of Owensboro.

Services will be 12:00 PM Friday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors presented by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday and after 10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center, 1614 W. Parrish Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.
