Charlotte M. Vance, 77, of Calhoun passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Louisville native was born February 13, 1947, to the late Louie Earnest Lohman and Alma Mae Durbin Lohman. Charlotte graduated from Calhoun High School, class of 1965. Most of her career was as an Accountant with the Kentucky Department of Transportation from which she retired in 2007. She met her future husband, David Vance, there, who was also a state employee. Charlotte was a bargain-hunter who loved garage sales and Goodwill as well as being an avid UK fan. She had compassion for all animals and collected every kind of stray growing up in Calhoun. Charlotte enjoyed the beach and her annual vacations there. She was a gifted poet with a good sense of humor as well as being a selfless and giving person who was kind to all but very protective of her children.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte also was preceded in death by her husband, David Vance; children, Lisa Mayes-King, Scotty Mayes, and David Vance; son-in-law, Terry King.
Those left to cherish her memory include her granddaughters, Taryn Shanae Crabtree and Brandy Colleen King (Nate Bell); brothers, Charlie (Dona) Lohman of Calhoun, whom she adored, Bobby Hardison and Chris Gafford both of Louisville; sisters, Sandy Hardison and Sue Davis both of Louisville and Debbie Johnson of Radcliff; daughter-in-law, Tammie Mayes; friend and devoted caregiver, Susie Alexander; several nieces and nephews; her feline pet, Bear.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, April 26 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery.
