Charles Edward Williams, 80, of Philpot, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Professional Care in Hartford. He was born in Union County to the late Edward and Jessie Ashby Williams, graduated from Western Kentucky University, served four years in the United States Air Force and retired from Southern Middle School (Owensboro 5/6 Center) after 32 years. During his teaching career he was a science teacher, a guidance counselor and vice principal, he believed the most important part of his job was teaching and caring for the children who attended the school. Mr. Williams was a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Bethabara Baptist Church but found his greatest joy as a husband, father and grandfather. The youngest of five sons, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alvin Williams, J.D. Williams, Chester Williams, and Carl Richard Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean Crume Williams; sons, Thomas Bryant Williams and his wife Stacey of Silver Springs, MD and Barry K. Williams and his wife Martie of Owensboro; and grandchildren, Lucas Williams, Lindsey Williams, Lake Williams, and Whitney Williams.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethabara Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery.
