Charles E. Whitaker, 91, of the Western Ky. Veterans Center, Hanson, formerly of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Western Ky. Veterans Center. He was born in Daviess Co., KY on March 18, 1921 to the late Charles Everett and Elizabeth Wells Whitaker. He was a member of Third Baptist Church and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II where he was a military policeman. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696. After returning from the war, Mr. Whitaker opened the Whitakers's Market for a short time. He then ran Ashland and D.X. Service Stations for about 25 years. In 1968 he started the Town and Country Mobile Home Sales and Park which his family still has today. He also was co-owner of the Rack and Cue at 14th and Moseley back in the early 1960's.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Frances Omega Whitaker, two daughters, Pam (Martin) Rowland of Beaverton, Oregon and Debbie (Joe) Chapman of Owensboro, two sons, Ron (Artie) Whitaker of Philpot and Tim (Jamie) Whitaker, D.M.D. of Bowling Green, seven grandchildren, Scott (Nicola) Whitaker, Shannon Whitaker, Mark (Deepti) Rowland, John Whitaker, Ann (Ben) Thompson, Erin Whitaker, and Kevin Chapman, and a great grandchild, Nikhil Rowland.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 16, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Yellow Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Thursday.
