Charles Leo Turner

Charles Leo "Charlie" Turner, 86 of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Kindred Nursing CenterHillcrest in Owensboro. Charlie was one of seven children born on May 20, 1927 in Posey Co., IN to the late parents Focient Adolphas and Mary Heady Turner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marvette Nichols Hilton Turner.

Charlie was a skilled sport fisherman and a lover of the outdoors, animals, and nature. He was a wonderful storyteller and his warmth and sense of humor were boundless. He and Marvette brought many smiles with their license plate that read, "Just Visiting Planet Earth".

In the years immediately following the end of World War II, Charles served in the U. S. Air Force in the Pacific theatre, mainly on the Island of Guam. In 1954, Charles obtained a Kentucky Apprenticeship Certificate in the trade of Carpentry and worked as a construction superintendent for several decades building banks, schools, churches, hospitals, and other buildings in Owensboro and throughout the country.

Surviving are his two sons from his first marriage to the late Dolores Maxine Turner, and their wives; Charles and Nancy Jenkins Turner of Owensboro and William and Laura Turner of St. Louis. He is also survived by stepchildren, George Hilton of Hampton, VA, Carolyn Hilton of Braselton, GA, Cathy Warner of Vinton, VA, and James Hilton of Cuming, GA., a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Anna Turner, and his sister, Mildred Hoover. Grandchildren are Zachary Jenkins, Katie Jenkins, Jacob Jenkins, Diana Warner, and Alex Warner, and great grandchildren are Hunter Jenkins and Jaliyah Jenkins.

Services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 14, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M.
