Charles Dan Thompson, 84, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away March 4, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born May 14, 1932 to the late Hayden and Kathleen Head Thompson in Daviess County. Dan was a lifelong farmer and a member and founder of Daviess County Pork Producers. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Englert Thompson; son, Charles Dan Thompson Jr.; and grandson, Garrett Elder.
He is survived by his daughters, Theresa (Doug) Roberts, of Bowling Green, and Caroline (Jason) Elder, of Owensboro; sons, Pat (Sissy) Thompson, Philip (Kelly) Thompson, Richard Thompson, Joe Thompson, all of Owensboro, and Dr. Tom (MaryAnn) Thompson, of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian, Nathan, Jill, Lauren, Dan, Chad, Katherine, Ashley, Zach, Haley, Bailey, Justin, Marissa and Logan; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Mike (Cloa) Thompson, of Owensboro; sister, Peggy Steinsburger of Speedway, IN, Clara Sue Downs, of Hopkinsville, Beulah Herrell, Marilyn Osborne both of Owesnboro; brothers-in-law, Tom (Meritta) Englert, and Jack (Joy) Englert; sisters-in-law, Kay Englert and Joanne Englert.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church. Visitation will be 1:00pm to 8:00pm Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, and Saturday at 9:00am at the church. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Prayers will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
