Charles Ellis Stewart, 84, of Utica, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born November 18, 1939, to the late Willie and Jewell Stewart. Charles was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He dedicated a significant portion of his career to the oil industry, having retired from his business, C&L Well Service, after a decade of service as an oil rig operator. Prior to that, he spent most of his life working on farms, embodying a strong work ethic that served as an inspiration to those who knew him. Even in retirement, he contributed to his community as a janitor at Zion Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed telling jokes and playfully picking on those he loved. He found pleasure in the simple things in life, enjoying hobbies such as hunting and fishing, and he had a particular fondness for watching westerns. Many afternoons were spent reminiscing with friends, reliving cherished moments and stories that would endure through laughter and camaraderie.
In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Stewart; brothers, Ed Stewart, JC Stewart, WD Stewart and Randall Stewart; sister, Mary Griffin; as well as seven half brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Charolette Ann Leisure (Rick) and Charles Ray Stewart (Donna); brother, Paul Stewart (Darlene); grandchildren, Leslie, Lauren, Lacey, Jesse and Morgan; as well as 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Charles will be 12 PM Friday, November 1, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 12 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
